Hi there,
Just a brief summary. I have been self employed since 1985. In 2004/2005 I took ill and was off work for over 20 months. I took a job in June of 2005 and went to work for a local building contractor. In June of 2007 I decided to go back to being my own boss. But as you know in Michigan, the residential building industry is pretty much in the dumps and since this past late summer and fall it has really went to nothing.
My question is: How long after leaving a job can I go back and try to collect any type of benefit??
Please note that I have never collected any type of benefits from anything in my life, no unemployment, disability, social security or anything.
Please let me know what or if I have any claim what so ever to go back on. thanks
Hi Burt,
It’s too late. Most states will tell you that you have a year … but
I don’t think in terms of time left to file. I think in terms of the time that has passed. With each passing quarter you lose another quarter of wages on the back end of your base period.
And in almost every state you must have a predefined minimum amount of wages in not one, but two quarters.
Thanks for the question Burt.
Chris
