My husband has not found work yet. We are thinking about him retiring at 62 and starting Social Security because he can not find work. Will he be able to collect unemployment after starting social security, since he is still looking for work?
Hi,
The answer to whether Social Security is considered deductible income with regard to unemployment benefits depends on the state you are collecting unemployment from.
The fastest and easiest resource to find the answer for any state is at the US Dept. of Labor.
The information can be found by finding the comparison of state UI laws – Current year – “Nonmonetary chartbook” – Table 5-17.
