My assignment / contract ends December 31st with a Temp agency after two years, how can I colledt unemployment?

I started working for a temp agency and have for 2 years. Do to restructuring with this company I am assigned and the contract will end December 31st.

When I asked my temp agency if they would help me find other employment they said they were not sure they had anything and if they did it would be way after my contract ended.. can I collect unemployment?

It is not hard to use email to create documentation that can help to prove you had a “conversation”, in case an employer witness surprises you and testifies “I don’t recall having that conversation”.

But like I say at the top about temp agencies, the real danger is states which have special temp worker provisions that effectively give a temp agency a loophole to protest your claim as a voluntary quit without good cause, if you do not precisely meet the requirements of the provision .. and even if you do, but didn’t document the “talk”.

Start by knowing if Illinois has a

temp worker provision. And if they do, know what it requires of you .. the employee to do when your assignment does finally end.
