I had to relocate to NC to take care of my mother who has been having chronic health issues. I gave my company three weeks notice and requested via email a transfer and wrote to a contact in NC as well requesting an interview for any open positions. My emails were never answered prior to my leaving and now my company is attempting to deny my unemployment benefits. I sent the NY DOL copies of these emails along with medical paperwork from my Mother’s doctors. Currently, my unemployment is in pending status, so I am not sure whether or not I will get it. I also offered (within the same email) to do my job remotely since I am a recruiter. What do you think my chances are of receiving my unemployment benefits? On top of it all, I still receive calls from my former company with work related questions. I did not make this known to DOL and wasn’t sure if I should. What do you think?
Hi Terese,
I always have to ask the same question first .. was FMLA an option?
