When an employer lets an employee go, are they legally suppose to give a reason in writing?
Hi Brandon,
There might be a few states like Missouri .. that require employers, through labor law, to issue a letter naming the reason for separation.
These laws are called “service letter laws” .. if I’m not mistaken.
As far as I know, California is NOT one of the “few states”. But I do believe CA has some written requirements if the letting go is a part of a lay off.
